Five more patients with corona virus were confirmed in Punjab on Saturday. With this, the number of victims has now risen to eight, of which one has died.
Second corona positive case in Amritsar
A 36-year-old young man who arrived in Amritsar from England on March 19 has been found corona positive. This has been confirmed in the investigation of the Influenza Lab at Government Medical College. The patient is admitted in the isolation ward of Gurunanak Dev Hospital. With this, the number of positive patients in Amritsar has increased to two. Earlier a person resident of Hoshiarpur was found to be Corona positive. He is also undergoing treatment at the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. The young man from the UK was isolated during a screening at the airport due to a cough cold.
He was examined at the influenza lab by taking a throat swab sample from his throat. In the first stage E gene test, he was found to be corona positive. The second phase of ORF One B and RTRP test was done for confirmation, the report also came out positive. This youth belonging to Guru’s Wadali area did not come in contact with anyone in Amritsar, as he was isolated from the airport itself. However, as a precautionary measure the health department will also screen the Guru’s family members living in Wadali.
Hoshiarpur’s Pathi report positive
The report of the corona test of Patthi resident of village Moranwali of Hoshiarpur district admitted in isolation ward has come positive. Civil surgeon Hoshiarpur doctor Jasvir Singh said that Pathi, who was found corona positive, works as a pathi in Gurdwara Sahib of village Pathalawa in district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. He came in contact with the suspected deceased of Corona there, a saint and Ragi at Gurdwara Sahib. All three had returned from Italy and Germany.
Four cases in Mohali alone
The first case in VIP city of Mohali, Phase-3A, involves an elderly woman (69) who was found corona positive. The woman arrived from the UK seven days ago, having been admitted by the administration to the isolation ward at the Civil Hospital with the help of the police on Friday morning. A case has been registered against the woman by adding a clause of endangering the lives of people due to serious illness.
The second case is of a 74-year-old elderly woman who is the sister of a woman whose report came positive on Friday. He is admitted to Fortis Hospital. Both these sisters returned from the UK on 13 March itself.
The third case is of a 28-year-old girl. The girl was posted in a company based in Mohali. He has been admitted to the Civil Hospital in Mohali. This girl is a friend of a girl resident of Chandigarh who is corona infected and undergoing treatment.
The fourth case is a 42-year-old woman from Sector 69. She arrived from the UK on 12 March. His report has also come positive. He has been admitted to the hospital in Sector 16 Chandigarh.
Nawanshahar resident has died of infection
One 70-year-old elderly resident of SBS Nagar (Nawanshahar), one of the corona-infected patients in Punjab, has died. He arrived at Delhi Airport on March 7 from Germany via Italy. He also reached his village the same day. He was already a patient of diabetes and high blood pressure. He was kept under medical supervision at home. But he died.
Hoshiarpur resident’s health improved
The condition of the corona positive Hoshiarpur resident has improved considerably. On March 4, a positive report came from the National Virology Lab, Pune, on March 9 from Italy. A second test was conducted on March 19 at the Influenza Lab in Amritsar which came back positive. This man came from Italy with his son and wife. The test report of his son and wife is negative.
Bus service will start on select routes from Monday
Buses run by Punjab government on select routes will not run on Sunday. Transport Minister Razia Sultana issued a statement that the service operated by Punjab Roadways, Panbus and PRTC will start from Monday. The service will be operational from Monday on 50 identified routes. He has also instructed the department to disinfect the buses which operate on the identified routes and disinfect them properly and ensure that more than 50 per cent of the seats in the buses are not filled and the proper distance between passengers remains.
He said that the revised timetable of buses would be made widely available to the public at bus stands and other places. The Transport Minister also said that people should avoid non-urgent travel or go out of the house only for emergencies as it will help in preventing the deadly virus. He said that although this may be an inconvenience for many people, especially the poorer sections of society, but in the overall interest of the safety of all people and to ensure good health to all citizens, this is the need of the hour.
Mohali temple closed for April 2
Due to the corona virus, all the temples in Mohali will remain closed for devotees till April 2, though the priests will offer prayers regularly, but devotees will not be allowed inside the temples. The gates will remain closed. This decision was taken in the meeting of the temple committees and the central executive of temples on Saturday morning.
Leave till 31 March at PAU
Punjab Agricultural University has been discharged till March 31 in view of the instructions issued by the government regarding the corona infection. University Registrar Dr. Rajinder Singh Sidhu informed that leave orders have been issued to all employees associated with teaching and non-teaching of PAU and all the external centers related to it. All attendees have been asked to appear at their head quarters so that they can be summoned immediately if needed. At the same time, seed shops have been closed at the main campus and external centers of PAU till 31 March.
