What is Janata curfew?
Janata curfew is a situation in which people are confined to their homes and only one or two people from the family move out only when there is urgent work. This is the reason why Prime Minister Modi has appealed to the people that during Janata curfew be removed from the house only when work is very important. These important tasks can only include work such as going to the hospital, going to work. On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advised people to stay in their homes from 7 am to 9 pm on Sunday 22 March, appealing for people to follow the Janata curfew.

Are there differences between Janata curfew and city lockdown?
City lockdown and common curfew have much in common. Both these curfews are imposed by the administration but the Janata curfew is different from both of them. In the Janata curfew, people have to confine themselves to homes automatically. There is no pressure of administration on them.
Use of ‘Janata Curfew’ for the first time?
The Janata curfew was introduced by Indulal Yagnik in the year 1950. Indulal Yagnik was a great leader of the Maha Gujarat movement. He was the architect of a vigorous agitation demanding a separate Gujarat state. At that time, the Center and the then Bombay Government tried hard to suppress the movement, but Indulal had imposed a curfew in Ahmedabad on the strength of his popularity.
At that time there were rallies in Ahmedabad by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Bombay Chief Minister Morarji Desai. Due to Janata curfew to go to the meetings, the public did not come out of their homes and in this way the demand for a separate state of Gujarat was accepted.
